I have spent most of my life immersed in softball, with 13 years of playing experience and over 14 years of coaching and training behind me. I have been a Fastpitch instructor and coach since 2009, reaching hundreds of athletes all over the Pittsburgh area.
Between high school and travel ball I had my fair share of no-hitters, a perfect game, a section play-off run, hundreds of strikeouts, and a low ERA. With good grades and my family advocating for me, I chose to take a full scholarship (academic/athletic) to attend Point Park University in 2003.
After graduating from Point Park University with a BA in Marketing, Advertising and PR in 2008, I became the assistant and pitching coach at Penn State Greater Allegheny until 2015. Both the head coach and I were named Coach of the Year 2013-2014. Coaching at the collegiate level taught me how to lean into having to be a constant student of the game, helping every athlete reach their full potential on the field, while supporting them in their academic responsibilities. We held grades as a huge dependency for playing time because that truly IS the most important reason for them going to college and furthering their education. Goal setting, time management, nutrition, conditioning, yoga, etc. were all things I have brought into my training that I learned from coaching at PSUGA.
Positively pushing my athletes to be WHO they want to be when they grow up and assist them in personal growth is the MOST important part of my job. Of course them becoming a great ball player in the process is amazing, but….it’s not more than that. Giving them tools to help them become successful women in all aspects of their life is what playing softball is all about, finding out who you really are along the way and challenging yourself to better in all every facet.
It is my passion to bring a unique and informative perspective to my instruction and the game of softball, having learned from both my strengths and weaknesses as a player and coach. I’ve used my training in yoga to help teach my athletes more about their body’s composition and anatomy, and help them to understand how it needs to “feel” and “WHY” in order to optimally perform. Muscle memory is crucial to a player’s success, so I equip them with tons of drills that they can practice at home to ensure that they are building strong and correct mechanics and fundamentals.
Mindset, breath work, positive self-talk, and strength conditioning are just a few of the lessons my athletes learn, beyond the world of the mechanics of the game. I am always a student first and foremost and am constantly learning from other coaches, players, and trainers.
I am so thrilled that you are loving the game of fastpitch and are here to look for someone to help you improve your skills. I hope we get to meet soon!
